Bread of Life is an outreach ministry at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Kerrville, TX. It involves the whole church and is focused on those in our local community in need of food and spiritual support. The ministry, through one-on-one mentoring, provides sharing Jesus Christ in words and action as food, toiletries, diapers and clothing is taken to the homes every other Wednesday.
Bread of Life works in partnership with Hill Country Daily Bread Ministry of Boerne, which provides ongoing training and family support.
Most importantly, Bread of Life and Hosanna develop one-on-one relationships with families who are ready to seek a life thru Christ and our volunteers want to make that journey with them.
Pray about it. Please check it out. There are volunteer positions for everyone and you might learn something that you can use with someone God has placed in your life.
Each group of volunteers performs duties which allow Bread of Life to function.
The Logistics Team travels to Boerne every other Wednesday with our covered trailer to collect the supplies from Hill Country Daily Bread’s (HCDB) warehouse, and returns to Hosanna around 3:30 pm.
The Distribution Team unloads the trailer and lays out each family’s supplies for the mentors to collect and deliver to the families’ homes. Collection happens between 4:00 and 6:30 pm.
The Mentor Support Team collects prayer requests from the families and mentors and records any changes in the families’ needs (changes in number of family members, size changes, medical issues). From the first visit, the mentor/family relationship develops and grows over time. Issues which cause broken relationships in the family are identified, prayers are offered and solutions are sought. Mentors also encourage the families to achieve the goals that they have set for the coming year. The Prayer Team prays for the teams, mentors and families. The team also assists in training mentors on how to pray with their families.
The Training Team conducts training as needed for both volunteers and members of the congregation to make the ministry more effective. Support comes from HCDB in the form of courses and trainers.
