Jesus Painter Press Release
The Pregnancy Resource Center, a Kerrville organization that assists all people to realize the intrinsic value of all stages of human life, receives a check for $6000 from Hosanna Lutheran Church, the net proceeds from the Jesus Painter performance by Mike Lewis at the Cailloux Theater on March 17, 2012. The event was funded by a donation from Danny Dean and Thrivent, a Lutheran financial corporation, ticket sales at the Cailloux Theater, and an auction of the paintings. Pastor Jim Mueller, acting as master of ceremonies, gave a brief homily prior to introducing the Jesus Painter. In 40 minutes, dressed in heavily paint-stained tee shirt and trousers, Mr. Lewis hand and brush painted four scenes of Jesus Christ using basic colors, with no commentary and accompanied only by background Christian music. A 45-minute wine and cheese reception and silent auction held after the performance sold the four paintings Mike Lewis created during in the show. Dr. Bret Ford, a local optometrist, offered the highest bid for the image “Christ Eyes”. The painting may be seen in Dr. Ford’s Kerrville office. Two additional paintings rendered during the Sunday, March 18th Hosanna worship service are displayed in Hosanna’s sanctuary. The Pregnancy Resource Center's mission statement is "to serve God by providing pregnancy and parenting resources, empowering people to make life-affirming decisions.” In addition to the donation to the Pregnancy Resource Center, the purpose of the event was to provide an outreach and bring this ministry to Kerrville during this holy time of Lent. |
